Councils and Cities own and maintain a large number of assets, including sporting grounds and facilities.
These facilities are typically hired out to local sporting groups and community groups for a broad range of uses through the year. These groups typically pay for the hire of these facilities, which often include kitchen facilities, community halls, clubrooms, changing facilities and flood lighting on sporting grounds.
Excess power consumption is a considerable issue for these facilities, with the risk of lights and other amenities being left on without the councils knowledge or ability to switch off remotely.
