Produced water pumps are critical to maintaining stable offshore production. A developing mechanical seal leak can escalate into a
wider process disruption if deterioration is not identified early enough to investigate and intervene.
On this FPSO, the challenge was to detect subtle changes in pump behavior before conventional monitoring provided sufficient
warning.
Using three months of historical operational data as benchmark and real-time data, VROC analyzed relationships across multiple
pump parameters and detected an emerging deviation associated with the non-driven-end mechanical seal 5.6 days before failure,
manifesting abnormal and isolated pressure drops.
The early warning gave the operations team time to investigate the developing condition and complete a controlled changeover to
the standby pump, helping maintain operation of the produced water system.
VROC detected a developing change in pump behavior 5.6 days before the mechanical seal failure, creating an intervention window in
which the operations team could investigate the issue and arrange a controlled changeover
Earlier intervention:
Provided 5.6 days to investigate the developing fault and plan a response.
Reduced operational risk:
Enabled a controlled pump changeover before deterioration could result in a wider process disruption.
Potential cost avoidance:
Up to USD $1.3M associated with avoiding a produced water plant trip, restart requirements and
resulting production loss.
VROC helps industrial teams turn existing operational data into earlier warning, clearer insight and more time to act.
