The Problem

As one of the largest oil and gas producers in South East Asia, it is critical to maintain reliable and efficient production levels. However, with one of their ageing offshore platforms highly dependent on continuous gas lift / injection optimization for production, reliability and efficiency were suffering. The gas lift compressor was having difficulty running continuously without tripping, resulting in the oilfield being unable to meet production targets. The technical team had difficulty trouble shooting the issue and looked to adopt innovative predictive analytics to assist with critical data insights.

The Solution

VROC was approached to provide innovative AI and Machine Learning predictive analytics to minimise production loss.  VROC assisted the reliability team in extracting valuable insights from their existing data (35,500 sensor tags). Firstly we assisted in forecasting the health of the gas compressors, we were then able to identify the time to failure through our predictions, lastly we assisted in finding the root cause of the surface line integrity issues.

The Results

The VROC predictive analytics platform assisted the oil platform operators in their objectives of improved trip avoidance and damage avoidance. Significant savings were achieved through the minimisation of production loss, along with the following key metrics;

  • Compressor availability before 60%, after 100%

  • Compressor utilization before 94.5%, after 99.4%

  • Flaring target compliance, before 50%, after 100%
